Jill Hagen, a singer/songwriter from Camrose, Alberta was nominated for five Canadian Gospel Music awards for both her debut album "Perspective" ( Pop/Contemporary Album, Inspirational Song and New Artist of the Year) in 2008 and her second project "Ruined for the Ordinary" (Rock Album and Pop Song of the Year) in 2010. She tours with her band across Canada and the United States sharing her passion for Christ through music.
Ruined for the Ordinary, Jill’s second album, produced by award winning producer, Roy Salmond, at Whitewater Productions is full of great hooks, solid beats and dynamic guitars. The album challenges us to live beyond the status-quo; a life of purpose and meaning. Jill says, “Stepping out in God’s calling has been both rewarding and challenging but I have grown so much in the process that I wouldn’t want to go back to the life I knew before. Someone once said then that this is a life ruined for the ordinary. I liked the saying and so I named my album after it. I hope to encourage others to choose this kind of life.”
At a young age, Jill started playing piano and singing in children's choirs. Her passion for music carried into her adult life when she started writing songs at 19 years old. She was a basement writer and would on occasion share some of the songs with family and friends. Jill finished her university degree (B. Ed with a Elementary and Music Major) and started teaching both Kindergarten and Elementary Music in a school in Drayton Valley, AB. With the encouragement of family and friends, Jill recorded her first album in 2007 at Whitewater Productions and in 2008, after releasing it, she left her job to follow God's call into full time music ministry and has been there ever since using her gifts to express her heart for God.
Jill’s ministry is part of the Artist in Residence program at Venture Teams International in Calgary, AB. Her music is distributed by David C. Cook throughout Canadian Christian bookstores, available online and is currently being played on several radio stations across the country. Jill was a featured artist on Canadian television station, Miracle Channel in 2010 and videos of this can be found on you tube or on myspace.com.
